Path of Exile’s 3.30 expansion, Covens of Umbra, launches November 13 (PST). Nobody knows what the league mechanic is yet. All GGG has shown is a 33-second teaser: hooded figures holding a ritual in a candlelit forest, no gameplay. The full reveal is at the ExileCon keynote on November 6, alongside PoE2 1.0.

With nothing concrete to react to, players are filling the gap with hopes and worries. I read 193 posts from DC Inside’s Path of Exile board (the largest Korean PoE community) between the afternoon of November 3 and midday November 4 KST, plus around 40 replies on GGG’s official 3.30 announcement thread. The league itself turned out to be a smaller topic than I expected.

Guessing the mechanic is the quiet part

The name points a lot of people toward Shavronne of Umbra, the campaign character, making a comeback. On the official forum, several replies guess at a Ritual or Affliction rework because of the teaser’s mood. On the Korean board it’s mostly jokes along the lines of “cauldron? Umbra? Guess I’m capping chaos res.”

What stood out more were requests. One Korean post asked for league content that resolves inside the map, rather than content you have to travel somewhere else to run. On the official forum, “please don’t just rework an old mechanic again” sat right next to “new cosmetics and a new Spectre would make me happy.”

The real topic is loot

Loot took up more space on the official thread than the league did. Complaints about thin ground loot have followed 3.29 Curse of the Allflame for a while, and they carried over. Replies included “fix ground loot and I’ll enjoy it” and “please, no more Abyss-style no-loot design.” Others pushed back that Abyss was profitable if you looked up the right farm, so even here opinion is split.

On the Korean side, a post summarizing streamer Fubgun’s call to remove “loot conversion” from PoE1 got close to 600 views. It tied the “expected Divines, got a truckload of Orbs of Fusing” feeling to how hidden monster reward properties work. Fubgun’s original post is on X and I couldn’t check it directly. Still, the same distrust about drops shows up in both the Korean and English-speaking communities.

A day-long fight about card gambling

The hottest topic on the Korean board wasn’t the league at all. It was the Harvest divination card gamble: you sacrifice up to half a stack of cards and get back anywhere from zero to double that amount of the same card. Of the 193 posts, 40 had “card” in the title, most of them packed into a few hours on November 3. That’s a fifth of the sample.

The case for removing it is fairly specific. One post argued that expensive cards never turn into items anymore. They just get used as gambling chips, which defeats the point of divination cards. The other side argued that the system works, that it makes Harvest farming profitable, and asked who would buy lifeforce otherwise. One of the most upvoted posts in the debate just shrugged: people have argued about this for five years and it’s never going away.

Nobody knows whether 3.30 touches it. But if you were planning to stock up on lifeforce or pricey cards before launch, waiting for patch notes seems wise. A system this contested is always a candidate for changes.

Four weeks before PoE2 1.0

3.30 starts November 13. PoE2 1.0 launches December 11. That’s a four-week gap. On the official forum, one player worried about finishing 40 challenges “in two weeks,” and another hoped this isn’t a minimum-effort league while the team focuses on PoE2. Korean posts asked whether this is “a two-week league” and called the timing awkward.

To be clear, GGG hasn’t announced a shortened league. That’s player expectation, mostly from people who plan to jump to PoE2 in December.

Several Korean posts summarized a talk by director Jonathan Rogers. According to the most upvoted summary, GGG cares more about how many players come back at league launch than about keeping them engaged all season, and is fine with people playing a few weeks, leaving and returning next time. If that’s accurate, a short stay before switching to PoE2 is exactly the pattern GGG expects. I couldn’t verify the talk itself, so treat this as a community summary.

What to watch on Friday

Hold off on picking a starter. The Korean board had over 20 posts of people practicing acts with Static Strike Guardian, Flicker Strike and various builds. One round of skill changes in the patch notes can undo all of that.

From what people are actually asking, the reveal will be judged on four things: whether ground loot and loot conversion change, whether the Harvest card gamble changes, whether the league content lives inside maps, and whether the 3.29 Allflame mechanic joins the core game.

Key dates: 3.29 ends November 9 at 1 PM PST. The reveal stream starts November 6 at 12:30 PM PST. 3.30 launches November 13 (PST), and an exact launch time hasn’t been officially announced.
